The Communist Party of Britain stands in solidarity with the people of Iran in their opposition and struggle against the ruling theocratic dictatorship.
The demonstrations that began on 28th December as mass protests against the collapse of the national currency and deep‑rooted structural corruption, stemming from more than three decades of neoliberal economic policies, compounded by the devastating effects of US sanctions.
Our party condemns the brutal and bloody suppression of the recent demonstrations in Tehran and cities and towns across Iran where many 100s of protesters were murdered, by the Islamic Republic of Iran. We stand in solidarity with the Iranian people in their struggle for democracy, social justice, peace, and national sovereignty.
Britain’s Communist Party, at the same time, condemns the direct interference by Israel and the United States administration in attempting to divert the recent nonviolent protests by infiltrating the protests to create the necessary conditions for Trump’s threat of direct military involvement.
We also strongly oppose the attempts by the British government and the mainstream media in Britain to promote so‑called “humanitarian” military involvement by imperialist countries. The gratuitous action of the British government to close its Teheran embassy at a time when BBC was hosting the war monger John Bolton and well known advocates of regime change in Iran as guests of main news bulletins can only be interpreted as UK support for regime change in Iran. This is openly in contravention of the internal law.
We stand in firm solidarity with the Tudeh Party of Iran and the country’s left and progressive forces, affirming that the Iranian people alone have the right to determine their own future, free from foreign interference or military threats and policies of subversion.
Britain’s Communist Party stands with the Tudeh Party of Iran in its call to build a united national front capable of confronting both the ruling dictatorship and the imperialist interference led by Trump, as well as the military threats directed against Iran.
