Party History Group

“The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”

The Communist Party History Group is dedicated to producing and promoting materialist understandings of history (international, national, and local), offering an alternative history to that of the ruling class.

The Group is the success of the Communist Party Historians’ Group which  included legendary figures such as Christopher Hill, Eric Hobsbawm, Rodney Hilton, A.L. Morton, Dorothy Thompson, and E. P. Thompson.

The History Group also publicises anniversaries relevant to our Party’s history. The History Group supports further study into the rich tradition of Communist Party historians.

One of the main goals of the History Group is to help educate the next generation of Party historians, teachers, and students.

The History Group plays a role in Party education and works with themes developed by Party Commissions where appropriate.

The History Group meets throughout the year and reports back to the Executive Committee.
