“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”
Under capitalism, historically and in the current period, disabled people have been subjected to systemic discrimination and barriers to accessing education, employment, housing and healthcare.
Communists work in and through the broad movement and the struggles of disabled people for a dignified life are no exception. Our members play an active and leading role in campaigning locally and nationally and aim to win working and disabled people to a class understanding of disability discrimination and the central role of capitalism and exploitation as the underlying cause.
As a revolutionary Party, we are dedicated to advancing the position of disabled comrades within the Party and in giving greater prominence, support and leadership to the struggles of disabled people.
Our Disability Commission serves a number of key purposes:
The first priority is to campaign and fight for disabled people in Britain, to ensure they can lead a dignified life with security and free from exploitation.
The second priority is to aid in the education of Party comrades on theoretical discussions, historically significant disabled communists and activists, and current ways in which to more actively engage disabled people within local branch work.
Beyond that, the Disability Commission works within the Party to improve all material and structures to ensure they are more accessible for current and future members.
The fight for a society in which “the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all” (Communist Manifesto) is a long one which is already underway – and it is a fight which requires all sections of working people.
