CP Political Committee: ‘Break US Imperialism! Britain out of NATO!’

“President Trump’s plans for US imperialism include the destruction of the Palestinian community in Gaza, in collaboration with Israel, as Britain and other NATO members do nothing to stop and actively support this genocide”, Georgina Andrews told the Communist Party’s Political Committee on Tuesday evening (28 January 2025).

She said the US president and his new friends in the West has dropped any fig-leaf commitment to a two-states Israel-Palestine solution in favour of a policy of ‘ethnic cleansing’ in Gaza, ‘cleaning up’ – Trump’s words – the territory for Israeli settlers and US construction companies.

“Confronted with the indiscriminate mass murder of more than 50,000 Palestinians, the destruction of whole towns and cities in Gaza, and a resurgence of Israeli state and settler terrorism on the West Bank, all Prime Minister Keir Starmer can do is hide behind Israel’s right to ‘self-defence'”, Ms Andrews accused.

“Even where genuine, self-defence can never justify genocide, and Israel can have no such claim – it is the genocidal, occupier and aggressor”, the Young Communist League General Secretary added.

Britain’s Communists also condemned Trump’s threats to use economic and even military force to seize the Panama Canal and Greenland.

“Capitalism’s general crisis intensifies the struggle for control over natural resources, commerce and communications, which fuels economic conflict, ecological disaster, militarism and war”, the CP Political Committee declared. It reaffirmed the Communist Party’s policy for Britain to leave NATO and not rejoin the EU with its expanding military dimension.

“Meanwhile, Britain’s Labour government sucks up to the City banks and markets and relies on capitalist market forces to resolve the very crises they helped create in living standards, housing, the NHS, social care, transport, pollution and the economy generally”, Ms Andrews argued.

She urged more trade unions to embrace a ‘left-wing programme’ of policies to boost wages, pensions, benefits and investment in public services and the productive economy.

The CP Political Committee also adopted a statement on the sexual exploitation of women and girls, to be issued shortly.
