“The Executive Committee shall have full responsibility for the direction and control of the work of the Party and for the formulation of current policy, in accordance with the decisions of the all-Britain Congress. It shall guide and direct the work of all Party organisations, assist the work of Party members elected to Parliament, direct and control the Party press, publications and other Party enterprises, and manage the central funds of the Party.”
Article 8, Aims and Constitution of the Communist Party

The Executive Committee is also entrusted with providing overall political and organisational leadership to the Branches, Districts and Nations. The Executive Committee is required to uphold and encourage the internal democratic life, work and discipline of the Party at every level.
The Executive Committee has a wide range of organisational functions including promoting Party building, organising central events, campaigning initiatives and the work of Commissions.
The Executive Committee elects a number of specific officers in addition to the General Secretary, the Chair and the Treasurer, such as the Women’s Officer, Industrial Officer, Communist Review Editor etc.
