Women’s oppression dates back the division of society into classes. However, it has changed and adapted through the different systems of production over the centuries until its current manifestation under capitalism.
The need for and importance of organising working women in the Party and in society arises from the specific oppression women face under capitalism. Despite gains in the previous decades, many of which are now the subject of a vicious right-wing counteroffensive, women are still marginalised and oppressed in society economically, politically and socially and subjected to gendered violence.
We stand with progressive women’s movements and organisations in Britain and around the world, helping to raise awareness of women’s struggle against war, poverty, sex-based violence and all other exploitative aspects of capitalism and imperialism which blight women’s lives.
Our Women’s Commission, which is includes representatives from Districts and Nations, the Young Communist League and specialists from across Britain, develops policy proposals and advice for the Executive Committee in relation to women’s equality, rights and safety. The Commission organises and delivers training, public events and conferences on topics which concern women and advise on political education for all our comrades, men and women, raising consciousness about the oppression of women in capitalist society.
Our work also includes promoting the National Assembly of Women and its Charter for Women.
Our Commission and Party are working to help build a women’s liberation movement in Britain which recognises that the struggle for women’s emancipation is integral in the struggle for socialism.
