Political Economy Commission

“The philosophers have hitherto only interpreted the world in various ways… The point, however, is to change it”

Karl Marx

The daily news presents a constant commentary of economic storms tossing us from one crisis to the next, presenting us unable to act and dependent on the wise remedies of distant experts. But it is abundantly clear that in all this, the rich benefit greatly and working people suffer.

Understanding the state of Britain’s economy as it is, the economic and political priorities of the ruling class and how these trends look to develop is of fundamental importance in developing the Party’s overall strategy and tactics to advance struggle for socialism.

Using Marx, Engels and Lenin’s methods, the Political Economy Commission works to unravel the mainstream disinformation about economic matters and arm working people with arguments to make sense of the real world and to organise to change it.

We produce briefings on current economic issues in plain language, demystifying the exclusionary commentary of the ‘experts’, courses and educational materials for study and discussion groups, and advice to formal bodies of the party.

Our Political Economy Commission, made of up District and Nation representatives and relevant specialists, works at the direction of the Executive Committee and in collaboration with other Commissions to advance this work.
