Elections Commission

“Criticism—the most keen, ruthless and uncompromising criticism—should be directed, not against parliamentarianism or parliamentary activities, but against those leaders who are unable—and still more against those who are unwilling—to utilise parliamentary elections and the parliamentary rostrum in a revolutionary and communist manner.”

Lenin

Unlike ruling class political parties, the Communist Party is not an ‘electoral party’. We are fundamentally a party of the class struggle and the trade union movement. Every day is polling day for Communists.

We recognise the limitations and the sham nature of ruling class ‘democracy’ in Britain which is used to distract and deceive working people rather than empower them.

However elections remain an important area of political struggle and offer a chance to raise the level of class consciousness and reach masses of working people at a time of heightened political thinking.

While we recognise that we have a long way to go in rebuilding an independent electoral base for our Party, we are ambitious and work to fight elections in the ‘revolutionary and communist manner’ that Lenin called for.

Our Elections Commission is composed of representatives from every District and Nation in Britain, our Executive Committee and the Young Communist League.

The Commission takes a structured and strategic approach to election work, aimed at elevating our community campaigning profile and asserting the distinct identity of our Party.

The Commission provides guidance and support to branches, Districts and Nations in the planning and execution of election campaigns, candidate training and development, and compliance with relevant legal requirements.
