Anti-Austerity Commission

The Party’s Anti-Austerity commission was established to spearhead the fight against the Tories’ austerity economics. We are now focussing our attention on the Starmer government’s clear intention of continuing the austerity agenda.

We refute the oft-quoted claim that “there is no money” when, in reality, we live in one of the richest countries on the planet.

The issue of local government finance is also high on our agenda, given the woefully inadequate funding of the services councils provide for the community. While, of course, campaigning against all cuts, we lay most of the blame for the current crisis on central government.

A strong fight against Starmer’s new administration needs to be organised to win on this front.

Working with other like-minded activists on the left – especially in local Trades Councils and in the People’s Assembly – we are leading the fight against the destruction of our public services. The Communist Party was one of the organisations which helped to found the People’s Assembly, and remains an active affiliate.

This work is helping to forge stronger links across the broad left, trades unions and important campaigning groups.

Our work is overseen and coordinated by our Anti-Austerity Commission and represents one way in which Party members have been building a United Front of resistance to the ruling class offensive.

Our Commission, composed of comrades from across Britain, meets regularly to assess the situation around the country, promoting and, where necessary, coordinating anti-cuts activity in local communities.
