End the Genocide of Palestinians – Stop Arming Israel
On International Day for Palestine, Saturday 10 October, the Communist Party salutes the mass solidarity movements forcing the UK government policy change on Palestine.
The Communist Party calls for all necessary action to end Israel’s continuing genocide of the Palestinians and illegal occupation, and for maximum attendance on the National March for Palestine: 3 years of genocide – stop arming Israel – sanctions NOW!
Despite sustained state repression, the mass movements for Palestinian freedom and sovereignty forced formal UK recognition of a Palestine state announced in September 2025 at the UN General Assembly, and in September 2026 long overdue bans on trade with illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land and on arms sales which “materially contribute” to the occupation. Our task is to ensure these measures are implemented, since no UK arms contracts with Israel have been suspended since then.
International solidarity with Palestinians is crucial, but the shape of a future Palestinian state is a question for no-one but the Palestinians themselves. Attempts to make a one-state solution the litmus test of commitment to Palestinian liberation are mistaken.
Palestine’s official representatives at the United Nations and the Palestine Liberation Organisation endorsed the two-state solution in 1988 based on establishing an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel within the pre-1967 borders, including the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. This is the position advocated by longstanding Palestinian political prisoners such as Marwan Barghouti. It is the position of Communist parties in the region -the Palestinian People’s Party and the Communist Party of Israel, the only party in Israel with both Jewish and Arab Palestinian members.
With Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu waging a war on UN institutions and international law, it is not the role of solidarity movements to issue edicts on a future Palestine state that disregard Palestinians’ own internationally recognised representatives.
One state already exists across Israel and occupied Palestine, and it is not a Palestinian state. Israel’s ethno-supremacism and economic and military advantages based on the imperialist power of the US, Britain, France and Germany are the real barriers to ending Israel’s illegal occupation and will remain so, whether talk is of one, or two states.
Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank and genocidal siege of Gaza must be dismantled.The role of the Palestinian solidarity movement in Britain is to demand an immediate, permanent ceasefire, and end Israel’s siege and illegal occupation by campaigning in line with the demands of the Palestinian people themselves, including Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, ending the two-way arms trade, intelligence-sharing and all military and economic co-operation with Israel.
