CP General Secretary on Trump Inauguration: “Break the Special Relationship!”

Communist Party General Secretary, Comrade Robert Griffiths, made the following comments in response to the inauguration of Donald Trump:

“The empowerment of this megalomaniac and his far-right and billionaire backers poses a grave threat to democratic rights, the environment and peace.”

“Trump and his clique’s contempt for women, trade unionists, immigrants and for the national rights of the peoples of Palestine, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Panama and Greenland demands the united, militant opposition of left, progressive and anti-imperialist forces across the world.”

“The continuing, increasingly reckless and aggressive nature of

US foreign policy under Biden will continue under Trump. The US ruling class and both their political parties are determined to maintain US hegemony at any cost.”

“The cost to the working people of Britain in terms of the billions squandered on weapons and the risk of war and nuclear armageddon are immaterial to them.”

“Instead of queuing up behind Nigel Farage to kiss Trump’s rump, if Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy stood up for the working people of Britain, they would prepare to remove Britain from NATO and all US military bases from Britain. But they won’t do that because they don’t stand for us. They serve the same ruling class interests that profit from war.”

“More than ever, we need an independent foreign and defence policy based on international peace, cooperation and solidarity – not a “special relationship” with the world’s aggressive, money-mad, war-mongering superpower.”

END.
